What is a Shaker Kitchen?

A Shaker Kitchen refers to the door style, which is simply a door with a raised, square edged outer frame surrounding – or ‘fielding,’ to use the correct term – a flat centre panel.

The Shaker style remains an ever popular and has been around for almost 300 years! It’s clean unadorned lines very much reflecting the simplistic, clean-living lifestyle of its creators – ‘The Shakers,’ a Christian, religious sect from which the furniture style derives its name.

At Staffordshire Kitchens and Granite (SKG), we do a lot of Shaker kitchens largely because the door style lends itself to any number of looks. Dress with a traditional granite with a waterfall edge, a butlers sink and round wooden doorknobs and you have a wonderful traditional kitchen - perfect for a cottage of that period town house. Dress with a slender, plain edged quartz top an undermounted - stainless steel sink and matching handles and you have a modern / contemporary style that looks just wonderful in that warehouse apartment!
